What is DIY Marketing Month?
While we’re not quite sure of the origins, we are 100% behind the intent! Entrepreneurs “Do It Yourself” Marketing Month happens to be the only event listed in Chase’s Calendar of Events with the word Marketing in it!
On a more serious note, Entrepreneurs “Do It Yourself” Marketing Month is the one month that we recognize the over 27 million small businesses in the US and the over 12 million people who attempt to start new firms each year, according to the US Small Business Administration.
We recognize that in the early stages of the business creation process it’s almost all about “do-it-yourself” for everything, not just marketing. The firm creation process is complex—many distinct
activities are involved. For 90 percent of these beginning or “nascent” entrepreneurs, it takes more than five years after the process has begun for an outcome to be determined. By that time, about one-third have implemented a new firm, one-third have disengaged from the process, and one-third are continuing in the startup mode.
Nascent entrepreneurs devoted a significant amount of unpaid time working on their startup firms—an amount that was equal to about 2.1 percent of all U.S. hours worked in 1999 and about 2.7 percent in 2005. It was close to one-half the total work time of self-employed workers!
